Why doctors don't recommend fruit juices?

Doctors may not recommend fruit juices for several reasons:

  • High sugar content: Many fruit juices contain a high amount of added sugar, which can contribute to weight gain and other health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Even 100% fruit juice can contain a high amount of natural sugar, which can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels.

  • Lack of fiber: When fruit is juiced, the fiber is often removed. Fiber is important for maintaining healthy digestion and can help regulate blood sugar levels. Without fiber, fruit juice can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels.

  • Can lead to overconsumption: Drinking fruit juice can be an easy way to consume a large amount of fruit quickly, but this can also lead to overconsumption of sugar and calories.

  • Better options available: Doctors may recommend consuming whole fruits instead of fruit juice. Whole fruits contain more fiber and are generally lower in sugar than fruit juice.

  • Additionally, they provide more chewing satisfaction and a longer-lasting sense of fullness.

  • Of course, there are some exceptions where fruit juices are appropriate, such as when prescribed by a doctor for medical reasons or in moderation as part of a healthy diet. However, in general, doctors may advise against consuming large amounts of fruit juice on a regular basis.
